Warners Bay, Australia

In 1978, friends of mine decided to move from Sydney to Warners Bay, near Newcastle.

I thought they were mad! Why leave the Sydney’s Northern Beaches to go to an industrial suburb of Newcastle?

My friend moved up there for work advancement, so the choice was made for him.The other benefit ,he told me – it was close to the Hunter Valley wine district. OK every cloud has a silver lining!

Anyway, after they settled in ,they invited me up for a weekend.

This is is what greeted me.

I couldn’t believe this piece of paradise was so close to an Industrial centre like Newcastle.

The little jetty was popular with Wedding photographers, taking the couples out to the end of the jetty and getting this scene, as the background.

Since then the place has got even better and my prejudices have been totally turned around.
