Capertee Canyon Lookout, is on the Mudgee Road and is about three hours drive from Sydney.
Capertee Canyon is the World’s largest enclosed canyon , being one Kilometre wider the the U.S.Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is deeper – therefore Grander.
The Canyon is surrounded by World Heritage listed wilderness, and was named after the local Aboriginal tribe , the Capiti People – the traditional Owners.
It was mined for shale oil and Kerosene production ,during the Second World War.
Which makes me wonder how deep the mines went.
We might just have pipped the Grand Canyon,if they measured them!
There has been a new lookout built off the Mudgee road, that gives a more expansive view than this.
